Organized by Fatih Municipality and Classical Turkish Arts Foundation, the 3rd International Yeditepe Biennial started Theme Talks series where art is covered in its intellectual dimension. In the first session that hosted Prof. Burhanettin Tatar and that was streamed live on YouTube, audience embarked on a journey on art, philosophy, and meaning.
Organized under the auspices of Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye, in cooperation of Fatih Municipality and Classical Turkish Arts Foundation, the 3rd International Yeditepe Biennial continues to contribute to the world of culture and arts with exhibitions and screenings, in addition to series of interviews feeding intellectual bases. “Theme Talks” series that was initiated in this scope focus on the meaning of art that is beyond what is visible, metaphors od shadow and light, curatorial preferences, and intellectual background of art.
The first guest of the program was Prof. Burhanettin Tatar who is well-known with his unique works in theology, philosophy, and aesthetics. The session moderated by Emine Canlı and Betül Bilgin, places meaning creation role that art undertook through centuries at the center to make an intellectual contribution to thematic framework of biennial. Speeches that draw attention to art as not just a means of expression but also as a thought practice brought in new perspectives to the audience.
Throughout the session, metaphysical dimensions of art, the relationship between aesthetics and ethics, the curator’s responsibility to construct a narrative, and search of today’s viewers for meaning were dwelled upon. Prof. Tatar drew attention to the bond of classical art with our current day, emphasizing future must be not just protected but also cherished by transforming.
Audience participated online in this qualified session streamed live on Yeditepe Biennial YouTube channel. The broadcast that was open to access of everyone interested in art aims to reinforce interaction biennial established with the audience in digital environment.
The interview series will continue in the coming weeks with different subjects and guests. Theme Talks aims to make intellectual area of art visible while also encouraging audience to make new readings on the multi-layered nature of art.
